What to look for in a tutor

DD struggling with maths and i'm now considering a tutor 1:1.

I know levels don't exist anymore but as of the end of year 4 was was a 3c (and had made no progress during the year). I'm more concerned about the lack of progress than what 'level' she is at.

I have started looking for tutors and have found someone who tutors (a primary teacher who currently teaches KS2).

Just seeing if there is anything i specifically need to be asking her, looking at before merrily sending DD on her way to her! She has full DBS/CRB available to check.

Reference of a couple of parents currently using the tutor.

A trial session to see if your child and the tutor get on with each other.

My son had a tutor for 11+ he was recommended. We did speak to a few.
Personality goes a long way, not just proven track record of helping other children. For a one to one tutorship they have to match so see if you can try a few sessions before committing to anything longer term. Also helps if you get along with the tutor too.

If currently teaching they should be conversant with current methods although at that stage they should also have an eye on preparing pupils for more formal methods which will be used in senior school.

Trust your intuition.
