'I introduced (little Huw) to guided reading today'

Isn't guided reading just 1-2-1 reading practise, or is it something else...? Yr1 btw

As I understand it they read together in groups, taking turns and commenting on the text etc with guidance from the teacher or TA. DS is in Y1 and this is what they do.

Guided reading in ds1's yr one class means reading in a group with a few other children - they are grouped according to ability and each reads a bit of the story in turn with the teacher listening. So not exactly one to one.

Guided reading is part of the Literacy Strategy. They are put into (usually ability) groups of up to about 6 children, and they all read the same book/text then discuss bits of it. They could cover things like how to decode words they don't know, what they think will happen next, what they think of the characters, things like that. It's about 15 mins and they usually do it once a week.
