Is this acceptable behaviour for a head?

Year 3 class, so 7 and 8 year olds.
Head goes into year 3 classroom, starts shouting at them in relation to a piece of written work. One of the first (shouted) comments "I'm fed up of parents coming in here telling me that I'm not treating their childrens work well" (note this is recounted by a 7 year old). Then takes a load of them off to the library and made them redo the piece of work twice over. Upon returning to check the work, shouted at the group again, and screwed up the work in front of them and threw it in the bin!
Is it just me that thinks this isn't right? Or am I being sensitive?

Another parent governor here.

The governing body should have an LA governor on it - assuming it's a community primary - so you could contact the local authority and ask for the name of that governor. There is likely to be someone in the education dept with a title like Governor Support.

We all have our names on the website and a display of mugshots prominently around school by the way :)

Could be that the problem is that the parent's try to have so much influence and that the constant pressure from a small group has caused this

I think it is classed as a foundation primary? The ones where they are more independent than straight forward LA schools. I know they are always asking for money!
Anyway I think the pp is right in that the pressure from parents going in to complain etc is getting to her...so she loses it a bit with the kids...and then parents complain...and so the circle continues...
So it looks to me that if I complained about this it will only serve as a catalyst for more unpredictable behaviour with the kids. I heard more stuff today that's happened this week - shouting at a nursery child (age 3) 'why are you crying, you are not a baby' Angry

That explains it. Foundation schools are almost like private schools, so their heads are not really answerable to anyone. Something must be done about this. Heads of any school must be answerable to an independent body, set up by government. After all, it is us the tax payers that directly or indirectly fund these schools, including private ones (for their charitable tax free status). This head is like the bad private head we experienced. Her attitude towards us and our DS was basically take it or leave it. We left, and very happy that we did.

Yep just double checked, it is a foundation school

If it's a foundation school, the head certainly is answerable to the governing body, and the local authority does have powers of intervention if necessary. The local authority should be able to give you the name of the Chair of Governors and may well be able to forward a letter to him or her.
