hi, we have just moved to balham and I wanted to get advice from parents who have sent there 4 year olds to Telfscot or Henry cavendish. Any advice and why you like dislike you choice would be much appreciated. Our daughter starts reception in September. Thanks

I know people at both
Is HC bigger? It has a pool
Not sure of any other differences - might be worth asking on NVN

Kathygrivo3 · 27/11/2014 02:53

I think it is bigger. Is the pool at the streatham site? What is NVN? Thanks

The pool is at the HC Balham site

NVN is Nappyvalleynet

Also worth asking on the local Facebook groups - Streatham Mums Network & Balham Mums

Check the catchments, HC's is fairly small.

Hi

We are in the similar position as Kathygrivo, having moved to Balham we have been fortunate to have been offered place at Henry Cavendish Balham and Telferscot but unsure which one to choose. Our daughter loves art but needs to improve social development. She is currently in a school which is a larger than average junior school and she has made a lot of friends and did well socially.

Any advice anyone can give and why to choose TS or HC? thank you

HC larger and rather academic (with a pool). All I know there are very happy. T quite small and shall I say... more organic, less conventional? All I know there are very happy. Bonneville, closer to Clapham South, large, dynamic and multi cultural (with a great garden). All I know there are very happy. All three brilliant schools in their own way.

Think you have to go and visit and see where you think your daughter will be happiest, good luck!

Hi OP, you could also ask the question on the Mumsnet (Local) Wandsworth Talk page here.

Wink.

Hello

My children go to Telferscot School and I am really happy they are there. Not sure I understand what Nena7 means by organic and less conventional! I vacillate wildly between Victorian parenting and Scandi leanings towards letting children be free to play until they are 7 so I find Telferscot helps me manage these tensions as they give year 1 kids homework once a week Smile the Victorian parent in me, but they are encouraged to take part in lots of art/music/drama type stuff too. Maybe this is what Nena7 means?

Telferscot has recently got an Outstanding OFSTED across the board so they must be doing something right. Henry Cavendish was always seen as the school to get your kids into but now they are probably about the same. Flexible drop in breakfast club and well run after school care. The extended schools staff and teaching assistants are particularly lovely and there is a great community feel to the place with lots of involvement in the Parent/Staff association.

The school is skewed strongly towards middle class demographic due to the catchment area but think more Guardian reading types rather than City banker types.

Hope that helps
