What are your yr 2 children learning about in maths?

Just wondering really.

DD's spent most of this term going over topics learnt in year 1 with the exception of column addition and subtraction.

The step up I was expecting hasn't happened and I'm wondering if this is usual or maybe down to the very lovely yr 2 teacher being an NQT?

In our y2 classes the teachers are using the Hamilton Trust plans as the basis for their planning...

www.hamilton-trust.org.uk/browse/maths/y2/autumn/92223

We are up to week 9 or 10 iirr.

Within this there is differentiation. We have some children working at a much lower level. They are doing the same topics but using lower numbers, different resources, different support and in some cases entirely different tasks. At the top end we have two children dong same topics but at a far more advanced level. The rest are differentiated within 3 levels - so in total we have 5 differentiated activities all based on the same topics each lesson.

I am very surprised if the teacher is offering no differentiation within her lesson. Differentiation is at the core of most teacher's planning.

Thank you to every one for sharing your thoughts.

I decided to be brave & speak to the teacher. From next term the children will be set for maths, DD will be in the top set which a different teacher will take.

Apart from support group all children have done the same work / had the same homework this term. There have been a few rumblings from other parents about this apparently, so maybe school decided to change the initial set up.
