Does your school promote the 48 hour rule?

Hi, so my lb was sick on Saturday, he wasn't ill before hand and was sick a couple of times. Yesterday he was a bit tired but was eating and this morning ate all his breakfast so I sent him to school only to get a phone call saying he had to be clear 48 hours and could I collect him. I thought it was 24 hours for vomiting and 48 for diarrhea. There is a sickness bug doing the rounds for the past few weeks so surely the school should be reminding parents of there sickness policy, do your kids schools? I was made to feel like a selfish parent sending my child to school but he is fine and has been since yesterday and he hadn't been sick for over 24hours which I thought was enough.

I don't think it is entirely up to the school, tbh. When a parent knows their child has a tummy bug they should keep them off for the 48hrs, regardless of wether they have eaten their breakfast or seem fine.

DS2(17) had Norovirus last week. He came down with it on Monday morning and was still vomiting and having diarrhoea on Tuesday. When I phoned the school I told them he wouldn't be back until Friday at the earliest. As it was, he was still too ill so went back today.

The Govt health agencies recommend 48 hours for a reason. These bugs can be really dangerous to people who have underlying medical conditions, under going chemo etc. DS2 is a fit, healthy young man, he was wiped out and lost half a stone.

We had a newsletter home the first week of this half term saying that it's 24 hours. Personally I always thought it was 48 and I'm cross that the school are stating 24, particularly as I have a vomiting phobia!!! There were 4 children off in dd's class yesterday (don't know why though) so if it was because of a bug I am hoping we avoided it and they all had it at the weekend...

Our last school was just 24 hours and they frequently reminded us of their own policy when we tried to say that although they hadn't been sick for 24 hours we would keep them off for the 48 Hmm
The LEA website also states 48 hours so I really don't get why they would complain that some parents were following guidelines correctly but they wanted the children back in school clearly to keep the attendance figures up .
They frequently had problems with sick children being returned too early and then having to call parents in to collect them.
