Infant school or infant-expanding-into-primary?

Our school is an infant school adding a class each year from this year, until it is a primary. dd in reception (and seems to like it) 30 in a class. school nearby has places, it's an infant school and classes are split into 2 x 15... and that's what would make me consider moving her also, two of her close friends ma be moving)

suppose the obv reason for staying put is that she won't have to change school at 7... any thoughts? tia, Dinny

Presumably you'd have to drive to the toher oen whereas you can walk to local one. Have heard positive things about the present one and there will presumably be a lot of investment and energy put into making the expansion successful. In which direction are you thinking of going ?

dinny · 05/10/2006 12:48

yes, the other one is DW in O, LIZS. jst feel really unsettled as two really good friends sriously considering moving there - one for personal reasons and the other as ds not happy with current school (main reason beng his bf is at the other school)

current school also feels weird due to builing works, i think.

we're about to move even nearer current school, actully- I'm crazy even contemplating it, aren't I?

hey, ta for posting -is great you know exactly where talking about! have you moved yet and is dd doing ballet yet? we now Monday after school.....

I don't know the O schools unfortunately or anyone who has experience of them. The car journey might be a hassle though , especially if you have to think again in a few years' time and potentially have kids in separate places. I remember when I was at school there were adjustments with age groups for infants and middle schools and it was unsettling but more so for the parents than kids.

How funny, I'm around after school until 4.30 on a Monday waiting for dd ! Probably even walked past you without realising !! dd now does ballet in her lunchhour and modern after school on a Tuesday but will probably switch to Saturdays for that next year.

the O school is under-subscribed, suppose have to ask why that is when the others in area are over-subscribed...

oh, do you hang out in the Sports Centre? I'm the one with the unruly blond yo boy!

Think I must have missed you today , sorry. ds has just started a club on Mondays too so am now around a bit later, trying to meet them in 2 places at roughly the same time. Did whizz past the sports centre on our way to collect dd but no unruly blond tots in immediate sight. Will keep my eyes pealed next week though

What may be worth bearing in mind (it has happened with a few local school here) is that the Lea has decided to withdraw the funding for classes of 20 or less so schools have had to combine reception/yr 1 and lose a teacher.

It may be the classes of 15 are only temporary, next year they may not be allowed to run them if the intake stays at that level.

dinny · 10/10/2006 12:41

ah, a friend mentioned there'd ben talk of 'losing' a year at this school, Julienetmum...
