Best to get info about it from school. I'm sure they would be willing to talk about what it involves.
At my school parent govenors get really involved, but most are teachers there as well! (14-18yrs)
You would probably have govenor meetings 2 times a term.
Excellent way to get involved with improvements to the school and to see where all the money is being spent!

am a parent governor at my dd1 primary school. i think its up to you and the school how involved you are - i'm very very involved mostly cos i'm a nosy cow and want to know what's going on, but other parent governors aren't so involved. some schools really welcome the support from govs, others don't as much. go in and speak to the head about it and ask what they expect from governors and how you could fulfil that. must admit its the best thing i did when dd went to school makes you really feel part of the community of the school. good luck!

Don't worry, headteachers always make you feel like that. I am always on my best behaviour when I see DS1's headmistress, no slouching, make sure my tshirt is tucked in etc!
Hope it goes ok.

ooh good luck fluffy - the head is probably dead chuffed that a parent is wanting to get involved! let us know how it goes!

The other problem I have is, if I nominate myself (feel weird about doing that) I have to get someone else to second me and I don't know any other parents at the school...
