Hi all, we are a maltese family but need to move to the uk because of my son s condition, we go to birmingham children hosp every two years for operations and thought that money wise and even because of his health issues it is more convenient to move there. I would like to ask you about safe areas next to birmingham that are not so expensive and easy to find a job. My husband works as a police officer in malta at the immigration section, i work as a beauty therapist but since our two children are both very young only one of us will be working so that i will stay with the kids. Can you please give me any suggestions on any areas ? House rents?catholic schools? Etc , as the move itself is not easy and we dont know from where to start... Thank you so much xx

How big a house are you looking for? I live on the outskirts of Birmingham and it would be about £600-700 a month to rent a 3 bed house here.

I think a 2 bedroom will do, the imp thing is that it s not an apartment. Is that price furnished and inc electricity and water bills? Also how much money do you think we should have to start with in the uk?

No that's not inclusive of any bills I'm afraid...If you can manage a 2 bed I'd say you're maybe looking at 500 - 600 roughly..I don't usually come across many furnished places around here, most are unfurnished or part furnished.

Not sure about money...to get yourself somewhere to rent you will need first month's rent plus deposit which is usually at least the price of a month's rent, sometimes a bit more. Basically - as much as you can manage to save!

Have a look on www.rightmove.co.uk - I have just had a quick glance and there does seem to be a fair few furnished rentals.

Rent is so expensive in the uk, but when it comes to monthly shopping it s much cheaper than malta, yes i ve been on rightmove saw a couple of properties and they look really nice, what im concerned about is that there are a lot of rough areas, and since I have two kids i want to feel safe especially for them and also jobs nearby and schools etc.... I guess the best thing is to come over for a week without the kids and go around and we will have a better idea of the area. And is it true that some landlords dont rent if you dont have the NI number and if you dont have an english bank account? Telforf shropshire is really a nice area and seems safe and not far from birmingham but where it comes to jobs i dont think it s easy to find one.
