Grayshott and area primary schools

Hi all!

I would HUGELY appreciate help with information about schools around Grayshott/Hindhead/Haslemere.

We are moving to Grayshott shortly and our only child is just over 1. The reports for the local junior school haven't seemed too positive. Plus the fact that it is a CoE school wouldn't make it our number one choice. We could, of course, be wrong so please if anyone has experience on the school please do let me know.

Also experience on Beacon Hill would be appreciated!

I'm new to admissions and catchment areas so am wondering if we would have a hope in hell of getting our little one into Shottermill in Haslemere or Beacon Hill for that matter. Does anyone live in Grayshott and have their children attending either of the two?

Thank you so much in advance!

Based on Surrey admissions data for 2014 you would not get into Beacon Hill if you lived in Grayshott - furthest distance a child was admitted was 1.365km so very small catchment

You can see here: new.surreycc.gov.uk/__data/assets/pdf_file/0004/7537/Waverley-Allocation-of-reception-school-places-in-Surrey-for-September-2014-V4.pdf

Similarly Shottermill was 2.6km so you would be too far away in Grayshott

That said, your little one is only 1, so you have 3 more years before you need to apply (? or slightly less depending on when their birthday is) and things can change in that time
However, it does seem likely that if you live in the centre of Grayshott, you wouldn't get into either Beacon Hill or Shottermill

I used to live in Grayshott and was involved with the school (although not as a parent) and I would say it's a nice/friendly school and I wouldn't rule it out simply based on the latest OFSTED. By the time you are applying, things could be very different :-) And OFSTED isn't everything as I'm sure you know :-)

Hoe this helps somewhat...

Thank you so much! That's really helpful and the link is great. I found it hard to find clear information..
And yes, totally agree that OFSTED isn't everything. We must pay a visit to the school and see for ourselves & talk to people first hand. So it's great to hear your views as well. :)

I believe that it is an improving school with lots of focus from the local authority. Some decent kids have joined from there to where I work (an independent school in Grayshott/Hindhead)

Are you moving to Grayshott properly or a house in Hindhead that is attached to Grayshott? (I,e. Different county)

yes, good point from trinity0097 - Grayshott is right on the Surrey/Hampshire border. Part of the village is in Surrey, part (including the school) in Hampshire
so depending on where you will be living, you may find you are in effect applying to a neighbouring authority (ie if you live in the Surrey part but apply to Grayshott school) and you may or may not officially be in Grayshott catchment - if you live in the Surrey part

I tried to find same info for Hampshire as Surrey (how places were allocated) but couldn't find it on the Hampshire website - expect you could call the school and ask for this info though

am sure once you settle in and meet other parents in the village (it's a pretty friendly community) then you'll a much better perspective on the 'best' local schools :-)

good luck with the move!
