So, are some names duplicated several times over I wonder, ds is quiet in class and gets picked out a lot , presumably to encourage him to speak out/up more.

Not got a problem with it at all I should add.

Not sure if this is what you mean, but my DD (senior school) always said that the teacher ignored those who had their hands up and chose one who hadn't!

No duplicated names in my "pot of fairness" although it's not impossible that it happens in other classes.

Is this a pot with the names of all the class in, out of which names are picked to answer questions?

If so, maybe the lazier ones have sneaked their name out?!

it probably doesn't get mixed up properly and therefore the ones who have been picked out and put back are nearer the top so are more likely to be picked out again.

Interesting. No idea, but if it's purely random you'd expect some children would be pulled out several times and others not at all.

DD's is called "The Cup of Doom", which I rather like.

Should have mentioned it is primary school, and I think they do it for answering of questions specifically, so it kind of gets around the hands up thing.

Is he really sure he is being picked out more than the others? Sometimes some students feel that they are being 'picked on' when it's really not any more than any other student, it's just perception because they are so focussed on what is happening to themselves.

UncleSue · 08/10/2014 07:54

Oh he doesn't mind! Which I am pleased about, as he is quite shy is is a good practise for speaking , he is bright and doesn't have a problem with the questions I just don think he would like to volunteer the answer if you see what I mean.
It is only my subtle Grin questioning that it appears the more 'vocal' kids don't get picked as much.
