Homework - should I be correcting DD's spellings as she's writing?

I'm torn between my perfectionist tendencies and my effort to leave DD (yr3) alone when she's doing her work!

What do teachers prefer - am assuming it's better that they see exactly what she can spell on her own? Even if a vast majority of words (eg this week she wrote a menu so lots of the foods she's never written before) are wrong?

And would it make a difference if it were a bit of display work like a poster?

Please advise! Thank you in advance Thanks

There's a world of difference between pointing out errors to 'fully formed' adults and helping a child who is still learning .

I'm afraid that I take the view that writing is about clear and accurate communication. Poorly spelled text is more arduous to read (not 'difficult', just harder work) and that hampers the communication of whatever it's saying. It also, rightly or wrongly, gives some people a poor impression of the writer)

The TA friend might be right about the 'modern thinking' (though there is ongoing critique of 'modern methods', even among teachers) but the OP isn't wanting to correct lots of different things; she just wants her child to be able to spell.

(And don't forget the SPAG test in Y6)

my children are only Yr1 and Yr2 but they do homework independently, If they ask me to help with something then I note at the bottom what I have helped with, what word I helped them spell etc and then leave it for the teacher to see.

Update - spoke to teacher.

She said don't worry about topic words too much for now (but she said the dictionary was a good idea) and for the moment we should focus on the high frequency words - there's a list of 100 in her pupil planner so that's easy enough. There's definitely a few on the list she gets wrong.

She also said about practising the editing/proof reading type skills so what I suggested about going through her story and correcting herself seems like a good plan.

So quite pleased really BUT one thing that shocked surprised me was that she said being able to spell the full list of HFW is an aim 'by year 6' - that seems crazily unambitious to me (right?!) so I'm wondering if it might be me alone pushing DD to spell properly?!
