I'm a bit worried

Dd1 is in Year One. Today after school the teacher said to me "Thank you for dd1, she's always happy and smiley - I've had a terrible day with the class, so many rude and naughty children, I feel sorry for children like dd1 who are good."
While it was nice what she said about dd1 this does worry me. She obviously finds it hard to cope with the class and I'm worried whether dd1 will get what she needs if the teachers' attention and energy is taken up by the bad ones. But is there anything I can do?

Probably just letting off steam to someone who deserves praise. I wouldn't worry. If it had been me I'd have waited to get to know parents before talking to them like that but it'll be Ok. Just one of those days I imagine.

Did she looked stressed? it may have just been small talk, or her way of letting you know what a pleasure your dd is in comparison to othere pupils.

I don't know if there is anything you can do. See how her progress goes in her class and if it's not how you expected then see her about it. If you don't think she is managing talk to the head.
Ds1 had a teacher in year one who was/is crap. He has delayed learning as it is and she didn't help.

Could well have just been a bad day ! Is there an assistant in class. Is it the same children dd was with last year ?

noonar · 26/09/2006 20:31

i agree. maybe a bit unprofessional, but we all make comments like that to colleagues. she just forgot to be PC!

emkana · 26/09/2006 20:31

They reshuffled they three classes in the year because last year the "bad" children were in one class and they tried to spread it out a bit this year.
There is an assistant, yes.
To be fair dd doesn't seem bothered, she still says she enjoys school.

I asked the teacher today how the day went and she said "brilliant, great day" so all is not lost!
