Hi,

I have a daughter. She was born in 30 August 2008. As I just came to London to start my business she couldn't start school yet. I will apply for midterm admission. Will she start state primary school year 1 or reception? I would prefer her to start primary school year 1 but as she was born in the end of August I'm not sure...

Thanks

So she is now 6? And will turn 7 during this academic year (academic year is 1st September - 31st August)?

At that age she should go into Year 2, albeit probably she will be the youngest. It is very unusual for children to be placed out of their age based year group.

Year 2 I think.

yes, year 2.
The way the school works is that the child does work at their level, so if she has not done any reading etc, they would take that into account and should give her support to catch up.

She would probably be the youngest in the class, as the cut off date is 1st September. (so born 31st August, year 2, born 1st September, year 1)

Yep my DS was born 4 days before your DD and has recently started year 2. He is youngest in the year.

Thank you very much :)

Hi, my daughter was born in Aug 2008 and is definitely yr 2, she's one of the youngest in her class. You won't have a choice ref the year. And if I were you I would not wait at all, because London schools (both state and fee-paying) are generally oversubscribed and it's hard to find a place, especially in the schools that are rated as good/outstanding. Also, if she is already here I think you are required by law to either have her in school or home school her. Good luck!

ps. If offered a place you're expected to take it right away, not at half term. That's valid in state schools, not sure regarding the rest.
