Spending all breaktimes inside

DD's class have a class newsletter. DD and 2 other children have volunteered to write it. DD loves writing, would happily write all day and wants to be a writer when she grows up, so this is her idea of a treat, and I'm also pleased that she gets the chance to do something "extra" with her writing.

The trouble is that DD is spending literally every breaktime and every lunchtime (apart from the time she is physically eating her lunch) working on it. When I said that she should be spending at least some time to go outside, she said that they do sometimes go out for a 10 minute run around at lunchtime. I wasn't too bothered at first as I figured it might just be for a few days and then they would be a break until the next one, but there seems to be one every week (of course this may calm down) so it is continuous. I did also wonder if the teacher expects them to spend so much time on it - DD goes for quantity and is a perfectionist so this may well be led by her.

I am a bit worried that DD is getting so little "down" time, spending all her time indoors, plus a little concerned she is cutting herself off from her friends (especially those in other classes - including 2 of her closest friends - that she won't otherwise see). But then I wonder if I am being overfully precious ... Comments?

How old is she? Is this her choice?

We have a similar situation with a computer club - ds and his friends are allowed to trial some coding stuff at lunchtimes. Ds has already decided that once a week is enough, unless it's raining, but one of his friends is doing it every day. I wouldn't be happy with this.

Can you tell your DD that twice a week is enough, and then have a word with the teacher in charge of the newsletter?
