11 plus tuition - how much do you pay?

Sorry to ask - how much do/would you pay per hour? Same as riding etc? How much is that?

I have a good local reputation for 11 plus etc but have now gone back to a teaching job pretty well full time. DH is between contracts and me working weekends seems to make sense (though he would have to do all washing/housework yay yay!!) Just need to know if it's worth it. Have charged £20ph for many years, but mainly to children of friends etc. I think this is really undercharging - what do you honestly think?

Thank you very much.

DarkBlueEyes · 17/09/2014 21:58

I pay £32 which is cheap around here - west London.

ellenjames · 17/09/2014 22:02

£24 ph group (3) session

TheMightyMing · 17/09/2014 22:11

We paid £16.00 a few years ago which I know wax amazingly cheap, and she was brilliant.

I know people paying 25.00 -35.00 , even for group work ( South Manchester). Trafford Grammars are the target for in area and those outside but within travelling distance.

Hoppinggreen · 17/09/2014 22:12

£25 per hour here in Yorkshire

MrsRuffdiamond · 17/09/2014 22:13

£15 per hour for a group of about 6/7.

bigbadbarry · 17/09/2014 22:14

£30 per hour, individual, Cheshire

SoonToBeSix · 17/09/2014 22:14

£20 for 90 minutes.

goingmadinthecountry · 17/09/2014 22:18

Thanks all. I know I undercharge but when it's been friends it's been harder. As my own children get older, I'm more detached and happier to charge! Have done 11 plus tuition in return for cleaning and for manicures in the past.

I'm thinking groups of 2 or 3 are the way to go.

I have just started paying £40 per hour for maths tuition (London too). Looking at this makes me wonder..

Greenfizzywater · 18/09/2014 09:56

a well known 4+ tutor in N London charges upwards of £40 per hour for a joint session.......

Seeline · 18/09/2014 10:42

I pay £25 an hour in south London. Didn't realise it was such a good deal!! I prefer one-to-one as it can be tailored exactly to the needs of my DC.

SlightlyJadedJack · 18/09/2014 10:47

£25 in Bucks for 1-1, friends pay the same at different tutors round here too.

steppemum · 18/09/2014 11:34

where are you goingmad?
(I have a year 5 looking to do 11+ in sept)

MinimalistMommi · 18/09/2014 12:23

£18 per hour group. South West.

WiseGuysHighRise · 18/09/2014 13:07

25 per hour - individual sessions in NW England.

Not sure there's much market for it though because no-one admits to having their kids tutored in RL...

SmileAndNod · 18/09/2014 13:41

No one admits to having their child tutored in real life.

Really? I am already feeling the pressure from other parents because Ds is not tutored. He's just gone into year 2 Shock

MrsRuffdiamond · 18/09/2014 13:52

Everyone round here 'admits' to having their child tutored. It's not a guilty secret! The reason I use a tutor, and don't do it myself, is that I've always found my dc focus better in someone else's house, without any distractions!

You have to do some tutoring, whether it's done at home or with a tutor, otherwise they wouldn't know quite a lot of the stuff they need to, for our 11+, anyway. Much of the Maths, for example isn't covered till Yr6 at school.

mandy214 · 18/09/2014 14:22

£37.50 per hour individual slots. In Trafford. With twins Shock

WiseGuysHighRise · 18/09/2014 14:34

Ha ha it is a secret round here! Everyone is quite evasive - think it may be different in fully grammar areas though?

I don't keep it secret by the way - I don't really see why people do.

Blimey - year 2 though! - I don't blame you for bucking the trend SmileAndNod
