I think I may be being a bit pfb on this but I would like opinions before I talk to DD's teacher.
DD is 6 (Y2) and still believes in Santa (and hopefully will for a few more years to come).
DD brought a book home today about transport and one of the chapters is about sleighs. It reads...
'In some parts of the globe children believe that Santa Claus flies around the world on a sleigh pulled by flying reindeer. Santa is delivering presents to all children who've been good. It's a lovely idea and although some sleighs are indeed pulled by reindeer, none of them can fly - unfortunately.'
DD read this bit on her own and I had no idea that it said this otherwise I wouldn't have let her read the book. She came and asked me about flying sleighs, stating that the book says that sleighs can't fly. I told her that the book was silly and wrong and that Santa's sleigh could fly because of magic.
She has now gone very quiet, I think she may be mulling it over. I just hope it hasn't shattered her belief in Santa.
I am really disappointed that the school has this book and is letting a 6 year old read it. DD is quite an advanced reader so gets to choose books from the lower KS2 reading area, but even so. I am planning to chat to the teacher about it, very low key, obviously without DD hearing. Is that unreasonable?
