I know it's early but everyone else I know got their's apart from one and her dd is also August birthday. Somebody suggested they've been missed because they weren't claiming preschool funding and it's a common problem. Is this true or is this lady making stuff up?

Just call LEA tomorrow. Or go on their web site. In our area they send packs to all those at nursery and yes those claiming 15 free hours as they know the child exists etc ... But in many areas they don't. You can still apply whatever. Tiggy is right - it is down to you to do your research tho.

JuniperTisane · 04/09/2014 23:06

My area doesn't open for applications til november according to the council website. Nobody I know round here has ever had a letter.

Barbeasty · 05/09/2014 06:58

Give them a call or go on their website and find out what happens.

Our council send letters which arrive the day primary applications arrive (the day after secondary applications close). They have a date on the website (I think end of November) and say if you haven't had a letter by then to contact them.

If they send a letter you get a code to apply online, and you don't have to provide any further evidence of your address, assuming you agree with where the sent the letter.

If you don't have a letter, or they've sent it to the wrong place, you need to provide proof of address and then you can get onto the system.

But everywhere is different, so it's best to check with you council what they do.

Have you moved since they started school?

We just had one of ours with a unique code stuffed through the door from the address we lived in from when they started school. They have to be filled in by the end of Oct in our area. Not happy that info with my son's details is now missing. We have twins.

Not impressed. We informed school the minute we moved 5 years ago.Kind of scary how both deps don't work together.Funny how they do when place fiddling goes on!

Not moved, been here in this house for 8 years and eldest dd is 6. I'll call up and check. Thank you x

I haven't received anything either. DD is supposed to start school in sept 2015 also. I noticed our catchment school requires application to the school directly. I thought it is a bit strange as most people here says three choices to the council? I should check the LEA website definitely.

I also rung my catchment primary and they say they'll start booking visits in 2 weeks time.

OneLittleToddleTerror · 05/09/2014 10:19

And application closes in jan here so many that's why I haven't received anything from the council.

tiggy maybe the school wants an additional form then. I have already checked their website and rung them. That's the bit that surprised me. I thought it's one application to the LEA only. But apparently not with my catchment school.

coppertop · 05/09/2014 11:31

I've just had a look at the website and ours says that they send the information to the nurseries and preschools who then pass it on to the parents.

We need letter as it gives your unique ref number so I have had to request one. We also need the form for faith schools that comes in the pack as without our vicar's signature our chances of getting in are reduced. Seems like a hit or miss system to me - either send letters or don't but to send some and not others is crazy.

I know it's different for all areas but as soon as DS turned 3 I went to the office at DD's school ( where we wanted him to go) with his birth certificate and filled in the forms there. They give me a receipt
We didn't hear anything else until the letter saying he had got a place over a year later.

Littlefish · 06/09/2014 10:52

No letters in this area. Information leaflets are available via nurseries, pre-schools, children's centres and childminders, plus posters in libraries, nurseries etc. but the onus is definitely on parents to find out.

ladybirdandsnails · 06/09/2014 13:53

Hopping are you in Wales? In England it all has to go via LA

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 07/09/2014 17:25

Our LEA put up posters in nursery and also in school newsletter but no letters. Applications open in Nov for primary and close into Jan. I'm about to embark on my 3rd application in 4 years. I only have 2 kids but have to apply to infants and again to juniors.
