Kent Test/11+: how to stop others passing on THEIR anxieties to your kids!

Posted for some suggestions on how to stop others passing on their concerns about the kent test.

My DC does not complete the test until next year but already whenever you say which class she is going in to (5) people comment about it is an important year and how we must feel stressed etc etc.

I am aware of the importance of the exam however as a family we are approaching it in a measured way we will help DD practise and prepare however I do not want my children to worry about it. I understand that children will pick up some opinions etc from other kids and parents but I plan on trying to keep it in perspective.

If your kids have done the test how did you keep sane and help to maintain a stress free environment for your children?

Try to tell them its not important if they pass, then frantically start looking at decent schools available when they fail.

My little brother starts year 7 on Friday and DS and little sis go into year 6 tomorrow, they've had lots of people telling them its an important year etc last year and its even worse this year.

I've just made it clear to DS that it really doesn't matter if he passes or not and told him how great his other options are because that's what my mum did/is doing with my brothers and sisters and its always worked.

We are lucky though in that we're Catholic in a part of Kent with a really good Catholic school so grammar is not the only decent option like it is for a lot of people.
