Hello folks! Hope you can help...

I think there is a bit in the Education Act to say parents can request full time schooling in Reception from the off, they don't have to abide by a school's sometimes seemingly-arbitrary splitting of intake to do weeks of mornings, then afternoons, then mornings and lunchtimes, mornings and PE etc etc. Does anyone know what legislation I am on about?

Nb asking for a friend

Thank you!

SLight sidetrack but we had an issue at ds2's school with regard to the provision of the lunches. The school eventually discovered that they had been wrongly advised, the option they were offering was illegal, even though they were only planning on doing it for the first term, and they have had to rejig their plans to bring it in properly from day 1.

I just wonder if by not providing the hot lunches until October that they are supposed to be providing - if this would be a way around challenging the non-provision of the lessons too?

I can't find a reference to the place that the person who challenged it at our school found her info, but partly it was from a friend of hers who was a head teacher at another school pointing her to the right part of the regulations and partly finding some regulations and guidelines online. It might be worth a few minutes of googling to find out what the regulations state - if they are to be provided from the start of term for everybody then why should children miss out for a month ? Maybe the local council education office would know?

Sometimes finding a way to attack these things from a different direction can be very effective Grin

School are not providing lunches for all children (read reception children) until October

They are breaking the law. Under the Children and Families Act 2014 S106 all state schools (including academies and free schools) are required to offer free school lunches to all pupils in Reception, Y1 and Y2 from September. They cannot get around this requirement by only admitting pupils part time.
