Do any of you go in to school to help the teacher in the classroom?

We were asked for volunteers to go and help with the children.

The teacher has 13 in her class.

i am the only one who has volunteered and was so exhausted I had to have a nap in the afternoon!!

I took them all to the library in groups, I did all the homework sheets and stuck them in books, I sorted out break and did flash cards with them all to see if they knew their letters.

If I hadnt done it then the teacher would have had to do it. I dont know how she fits it all in and there are only 13 of them. How do teachers cope with a class of 28?

I helped out in a class of 30 yesterday.
Swelled to 60 when we joined another class for PE.
It was fun, there's a lot of time wasted on discipline/management, though. I like it because it makes me forget everything else for a while; like sweeping cobwebs out of your mind. And helps you understand how they are learning.

13, gosh that is a small class. The local school near to me were forced to combine reception and year one when their numbers fell to 20.

Dd is in a class of 20 1 teacher plus teaching assistant. Parents are never asked to help out.

I have taught a group of 15 in an out of school class and it is hard work and I only had them for an hour. Fun though!!!

I remeber helping out in the classroom when dd was in the infants,it was positively knackering.I do think everyone should do it because as a parent you learn so much about you child's day, their classmates, the work they do and above all what a marvellous job teachers do .I wouldn't be a teacher if you paid me a million pounds!!

I go into ds's preschool and give music classes, it is nice to meet all his friends and teachers other than as "ds's mum". I do find it tiring - much more so than an 8 hour day of my normal music teaching, but I think it's because with your normal job you get very good at functional autopilot.

I loved doing it though.

I got to know all the children and suss them out a bit!! And after doing the flash cards with them it made me realise ds has some work to do!
