Work book to help teach writing

My son starts school in September. He is really keen to learn to write - he can do his name and some other letters.

Are there any work books I could buy that would help him with letter formation etc? Ideally ones that would be consistent with how they will be teaching him this coming year.

Thanks!

let him "write" the letter on your back with his finger see if you can guess what he wrote

but definitely don't worry there will be lots of children who don't know how to write yet so take your lead from him.

Oooh my daughter loved that one Mrz - and the same with numbers! I'd forgotten that. We'd sit for ages doing that one.

I'd say most children in my daughters reception class couldn't write, most could make an attempt at a name maybe? I don't really know enough of the class to know.

There's some pretty amazing writers by the end of the year though in a mainly play based environment.

Thanks. I am not worried, I am sure he will do fine in reception, he just gets frustrated because he wants to be able to write simple words. He asks me to teach him, I thought workbooks might be a good place to start!

If he wants to write words I would show him how and let him copy with your support at this stage.
