Name tags

My DS is starting school in Sept and I was wondering what sort of name tags everyone uses? My DD is going in to y3 and I originally bought sew in ones for her, but have reverted more and more to writing in with a laundry marker. Want something that will stand up to numerous washes, but will also be easily removed when it comes to passing on. Also don't really want to spend a small fortune on them... any recommendations?

I use iron in ones from www.mynamelabel.co.uk which have always been brill. They seem to lasts. Long time but are easy to. Remove when things are passed on to Dd2

I bought sew in and iron in last year. Sew in took forever to sew, while iron in wouldn't come off. This year I've used a laundry marker.

Meant to say, I just write surname.

We use iron-on from Easy2name plus their normal sticker. The sticker survive the dishwasher and still go strong 3 years later. I also use them for the cloth lable if I don't iron on.

I don't like using a pen, it is not really readable even with a short surname. DD prefers looking for a bright label, a lot easier.

Just sticking with trad sew in ones here, as I've probably got enough to last them to the end of their school careers (and beyond if I re-use them).

At least you can do them piecemeal when they're being handed down.

I sew in. There is always a large bucket of jumpers and school fleeces in the cloakroom at the end of term full of uniform where you can see someone has written something on the label at some point but it is impossible to work out what. Biro and sharpie fade by the end of term after repeated washing. Less scrupulous parents or children may help themselves to another child's jumper if they have mislaid their own, even in naice schools. It's a hell of a lot more faff to remove a sewn in name than to cut a biroed label off.

I iron them in from mynametags.com. They say 10 seconds - I do it for about 20 and they never ever come loose!

Another huge vote for mynametag

I sew in. Do it properly and you will lose nothing, unless you have thieves at your school who cut labels out. I think all schools do but you just have to hope thar person doesn't end up with your dc stuff!

I use MyNametags.com adhesive ones. Fab.

TeenageMutantNinjaTurtle · 07/08/2014 18:53

I use the tags from Name Label Co they clip in easily then snap off when you want to remove them.

They do fade after many washes but are still readable.

I use the clip on ones from nametag-it.co.uk. They were recommended to us by a residential /care home, as they need to stay in for multiple hot washes. I find iron-in ones peel off after a while, and sewing in is time consuming. The clip-in ones take seconds to do.
