DD's school do a maximum of L3 even if the child is very advanced. Instead they do a 'reading age' which gives more accuracy. DD has got L3 with a 10yrs 4m reading age.
Enid Blyton - yes, definitely! Wink

DD (now yr1) might verbally get L4 in reading (currently 3B verbal assessments but not on her SATS/written results as her writing isn't as strong, although still v ahead iyswim.)

I thought it was normal for schools to give sub levels at L3 Confused

My DC school do a reading age test too & DD was assessed early on in yr1.

Schools must report sub levels for level 2 at the end of KS1 but the system doesn't allow them to enter sub levels for level 3 Simpson
Of course individual schools will report sub levels to parents separately

My 7 year old dgs got level 3 in everything. Teacher assessment just described him as working 'well above the expected level in all areas of the curriculum'. Teacher assessment used 1, 2 and 3 for achievement with 1 beinng above expected and 2 expected and 3 working towards. Effort was a, b or c . So 1a was the highest and 3c the lowest but 3a or 1c being perfectly possible.I found this very confusing as the test results were all 3 with no sublevels and the TA were all 1a.
The report said that nationally no one got level 4 in KS1 tests and there were percentages for all the other levels for the school and nationally and divided into boys and girls.

I know someone who did (but she is now 21 so it was about 14 years ago)

I was surprised that my ds1 got level 3 in all his sats. I posted a while ago as he doesn't know his alphabet and had been struggling just a few months ago so I was really shocked.

I was told they wouldn't award above a L3. When DS moved to junior school he was assessed in the first couple of weeks term as having a reading age of 11 plus a 4c in writing. Presumably he was this level on leaving the infant school but they said he was a 3c in writing and 3b in reading, I knew it wasn't really correct but in the big scheme of things in wasn't that important as he is doing ok now.
