I'd like to get a set of phonics based readers, around level 4-5. Can anyone recommend any please? We have some Songbirds and I'd love the Dandelion readers set but they seem quite expensive. Thank you!

Read Write Inc were quite varied and interesting. And I think you can get B&W versions that are cheaper. Did you know you can read a lot free online with Oxford Owls? A way of trying them for yourselves if nothing else.

You could also look at Reading Chest as another alternative. Might be cheaper to subscribe short term rather than buying if you're looking at summer holiday reading.

Reading Corner phonics are what my dd enjoyed at that stage - we ordered them from the library, otherwise it would have got rather expensive. From memory, there are three colour bands which get progressively harder, but I don't think there's a direct match to bookbands. If you can browse a few online you would be able to see if they're right.

Agree about using library resources. See what phonics your library service have (as googley says you may need to order in). But also by level 4-5 where my DS is now a load of books from the library are decodable, including most early readers from non-phonics schemes, and some normal picture/story books from the toddler books shelves.

Biff and Chip? If not used at school.
