Level 2 - Reception
DD has her first report.
She is in reception
She got all level 2 - expected

Is this about right? I don't really know. She's doing well with her reading and writing and is very happy and loves school. Just wondered if anyone knew if this was an ok level to be at.

She's young in the year and couldn't read or write when she started.

It isn't level 2 but it is right well done your daughter

It's very good level to be at. Sounds like she's done very well.

TeenAndTween · 13/07/2014 16:35

Ummm.

I don't see that it can be National Curriculum Level 2, (which is what Level 2 would normally mean on here), as that is the Expected level for end Year 2. So in no way would it be the expected Level for reception.

So I don't know what it means.

However as it says she is at the 'expected' level that should be OK.

Perhaps mrz will be back in a minute to expand on her comment...

TeenandTween, children are scored as emerging, expected or exceeding against each of the early learning goals at the end of reception. For data handling purposes this can be scored as 1, 2 or 3, with 1 being emerging, 2 expected and 3 exceeding. I think some schools are reporting this to parents as the numbers rather than emerging/expected/exceeding.

Ahh. It's obviously changed since my youngest was in Reception.

Last year I think, or possibly the year before. I'm sure Gove can find some way to change it again.

Thanks everyone. I'm a bit clueless about the marking and grading system.
I'm happy that she enjoys school and is loving PE and reading etc but realise as well as being happy I should be making sure she's reaching targets etc .Smile

The benchmark has been raised considerably since the previous points system two years ago. 'Expected' is a solid starting point for Y 1.

tobysmum77 · 14/07/2014 21:18

I think that is perfect. I was in the park reading dd's after school and 2 parents said that was exactly what their dc got. A lot is expected for 'expected' in everything Smile

Thanks Smile
This year has been amazing! Getting to watch her make friends at school and learn to read. She amazes me on a daily basis Smile
