DS1 got 1c Writing 1b Reading and 1a maths at he end of year 1 he has just got his Sat results for the end of year 2 and has 2c writing, 2b reading and 2a maths.

So am I right in thinking he has got better at everything i.e moved from a 1 to a 2 (as you would expect with a whole year at school) but is actually still average at reading (b) good at maths (a) and not very good at writing (c).

If this is the case should I be expecting school to be putting into place some sort of extra support for writing as he is obviously struggling?

Oh and does anyone have any experience of Explore Learning we have one in our local Sainsburys and wonder if this would help him with his writing at all. They do seem to mostly just be sat at computers when I have looked through the window so not sure how helpful this would be?

He's hit expected levels in everything (Level 2) and made expected level of progress (1 level). 2c in writing is not struggling, though your school should of course support any weaknesses he has, I doubt this will mean he gets "special" extra help.

He's not struggling in writing, he's just slightly below national expectation.

The 1 and 2 don't represent the year of school he is in but a level, which has three sub divisions. By year 6, the expected level of achievement is a 4b.

except by the time he gets to Y6 there will be no levels
