BED WETTING and WRITING ON BANANAS (starting reception)

I have just written dd1's name on a banana. well they said that breaktime snacks had to be named!
so, i am taking my responsibility as a schoolgate mum seriously, you'll be pleased to know.

on a more serious note, dd1, who starts school in the morning has wet the bed 2 out of the last 4 nights. i thought that she was taking it all in her stride, but am worried now that she must be anxious, as she never usually wets. has anyone else had this experience with their LO? i doubt it's just a coincidence.

Drawing little pictures on bananas is good too, although you may get complicated requests...
The first few days of school are the most stressful - I'm sure things will improve drastically. Good luck! (My ds2 has just started too and is suddenly starving, exhausted and overwrought)

She will also be incredibly tired with all the new faces and things to do/not do to remember.

could it be anxiousness or just so tired with all new excitement that she is so fast asleep she isn't waking to go?

try insisting on her trying to use the loo before bed and cutting back on drinks before bed until she gets used to the new pattern.

thanks folks. she had really good first day today. i hadn't thought that tiredness could be the reason for BW. i just assumed that it's anxiety related. the last couple of night i've 'lifted' her. think i'll carry on doing that for a while.

LOL - the teacher had a word with one of the dads for NOT labelling his dd's apple!

We've had one but not the other!

DS (4.10) potty trained like a dream at 2 and was out of bedtime nappies a good 2 years ago, before he was 3. Has probably wet the bed less than 5 times in the last 2 years. Started reception on Wednesday and wet the bed on Thursday! I honestly think there are no emotional issues to it at all (he was in the nursery of the school and is well used to the regime, plus it is a small and kind school). He drank 2 large cups of water before bed time as he was very thirsty and slept very very heavily as he was very tired. Recipe for disaster in my opinion!

Noonar I have written DD?s name on a banana too lol. Often also draw a heart or a star as well.

Re the wetting: Neither of mine did this but I am sure you are right, it?s a reaction to the stress. There?s a lot to deal with in the first few days and the way my children manage it is to be very stroppy and grumpy at the end of the day lol.
I think you just need to be as supportive and helpful as you can and it will pass. Might be worth having her checked out at the docs for a possible UTI.

dd has gone to bed saying 'i love school'. can't ask for more than that on day 1, can i?

dd2 on the other hand , is playing up. even at 2 she seems to sense the attention her sis is getting today. she kicked off when we dropped her at nursery, and at bed time

Writing names on fruit??? Is this how they eddikate em down in England?? Up here in the Frozen North (aka) Scotland) - call us simple, but they ask us just to have something named it can go in, like a snack-box. Fruit goes in (named) snackbox, snackbox goes in (named) tray first thing in classroom... If it's in yr dc's named box in yr dc's named tray - its deemed to be theirs!! Writing names on fruit, is it?... Good Lord now I've heard it all...

Not only that, but we're approaching end of our 4th week, oop ere... I have good news and bad news. Good news is the wet sheets increment goes down. Bad news is the 'Mummy, I LOVE school' messages only last for as long as it takes for the penny to drop that This Is It for the next 13-odd years... My DD went on saying it for 2 weeks - not bad, on the odds, we never had the weeping at the door at least - but has spend last 10 days saying 'do i have to keep going...?' - with which I have to say I'm with her on that!!

Coz that's the really bad news noone bothers to tell you. It takes SO much emotional energy to get them there, after the first flush has worn off you'll really go off the idea - by week 2 YOU'll be on your knees - it'll be YOU saying 'you mean we have to keep doing this???...!' See if I'm not right!

I write on bananas (or got dd to-good practice) and alwayd do stars and hearts too.

Clary · 12/09/2006 07:56

how do you non-banana-writers label that particular fruit then?

(yes, I put tomatoes, apple pieces, grapes etc in a named box - bit tricky with a nana tho)

peegeeweegeewoo · 12/09/2006 20:27

another banana-writer here!!

beware of drawing pictures too, it can be a slippery slope...
what started out as a cute smiley face quickly became requests for airplanes, lorries, spacemen and harry potter!!!

he has gone into y3 now, and named bananas are no longer cool... (sob)

fubsy · 12/09/2006 21:14

My grandad used to give me special presliced bananas - was years before I found out he used a pin and wobbled it about inside the skin so that he sliced through it - I thought he just got special ones we couldnt get at home!

But you need a big snack box for a banana Tyg...

Hadn't thought about illustrating banana with stars and hearts....seems I'm missing a trick

Clary · 13/09/2006 13:06
