Has everyone had the DC's reports yet?

We're still waiting on ours. It's less than 2 weeks until the school breaks up (18th july) and I'm sure we had them by the end of June last year. My concern is if they're not out by Tuesday due to the the teachers strike that will only give us a week to organise meetings with the teacher if necessary. I'm not anticipating any problems but DD is in year 2 so I imagine a lot of parents will have questions about levels etc and surely the last week of term will be hectic enough for teachers without being hounded by concerned parents.
Normally I would assume HT had it all under control but ours is fairly new and there have been a number of concerns raised about him, he doesn't seem to be on top of things or particularly organised. So I was wondering if this is normal and I'm just confused about when we got them last year.

Probably a private school thing but our reports come home on the day they break up so no chance of meetings or discussion about them.

chocadoobee · 05/07/2014 11:56

We had ours yesterday.

Worst report I have ever received. They have changed the format due to changes the secretary of state made. No levels have been given as have previously

First page we have the teacher's comments which I always appreciate.

However next we have 14 or so pages of whether child has demonstrated an ability to, for example "speak audibly and fluently with an increasing command of standard English". It goes on and on with either a Y or N (yes/no) next to it.

It covers everything from English, maths, DT, Geography, History etc. Many things she has not yet learned! She is only 7 years old.

Most of it is meaningless.

Our reports (with test levels) went home last Monday with parents evening the following day (on the Tuesday) at which we discussed anything with teacher then signed the report.

So not National Curriculum test Elisabetta

Elisabetta2214 · 05/07/2014 13:57

Not yr 6 SATs, no. Yr 2

zingally · 05/07/2014 14:40

I sent mine home yesterday.

MrsKCastle · 05/07/2014 15:22

My daughter's school are sending reports out on wed 16th, then break up on the 18th, so parents are clearly not welcome to come in and discuss them.

They were originally due out on 14th, but are apparently delayed due to the strike on the 10th as the school is closed. This makes no sense at all to me as the 10th would have been a normal teaching day. AND they're closed for another day for a completely different reason (not inset) during which the teachers could work on reports.

teacherwith2kids · 05/07/2014 15:37

Both sent mine out and received DD's yesterday.

DD is Year 6 - in her school SATs levels will be communicated separately (her report was the same narrative format as usual, with indications iof attitde to learning and whether above / in line with / below national experctations, as is sent for all year groups).

In my school, all but Y6 sent yesterday, Y6 to follow with test results.

I am expecting very few parents to come in about them (we've already had open evening for parents of current + next year's class to have a good look at the classroom, chat to me informally etc) but if they want to, there are two weeks to make appointments.

Nonie241419 · 05/07/2014 16:49

We haven't got ours yet. My DC still have 2.5 weeks in school, and they always send them very close to the end of the year, so we could well have another 2 weeks to wait. I doubt there's anything surprising in there, so I'm not too fussed. DC1's will say his behaviour is an issue, DC2's will say he needs to stop getting distracted when working.

Once I have finished writing the reports, which take hours given I have written over 55000 words this year, then they have to go to another teacher ( who also has reports of her own to write) to be proof read. They then go to the Head who has to type comments on each. They are then returned to the office who have to add the attendence figures on. Then the children have to write their comments page. Then they are returned to the office and all have to have photographs inserted on the front. Then they are printed out and returned to the teachers to sign, they then go to the Head to sign. Then they are all checked again to ensure the correct inserts are with the correct report ( after we have received the Year 6 test results back, inserts need to be printed with these results on). Then they all have to be photocopied and the copies filed in each child's personal file. Then the originals have to be inserted in envelopes and name labels attached. After all this, they can be issued!!
All this has to be done on top of all the other regular jobs that the Head, the teachers and office manager have to do. I suppose I COULD start writing the reports at Easter but they wouldn't really reflect what your child can do by July!

I HATE report seasonGrin

teacherwith2kids · 05/07/2014 17:11

Spaniel, ditto - but without the photographs ... and also that all the jobs you describe as done by the office are done by me for my 32 children ... (the Head proofreads as well as writing comments on them by hand).

I always do the main bulk over half term and adjust as necessary just before the deadline, as I physically can't manage report writing as well as the weekly planning / marking / assessing round (all assessments need to be completed and moderated in time for the reports to go out, so everything is in step ... deadline for full data analysis of the class is due this Monday)

mrz · 05/07/2014 17:33

My head proof reads the rest is down to me

LucyStafford · 05/07/2014 19:49

Always the day they break up.
Annoying somewhat.

rollonthesummer · 05/07/2014 23:24

Worst report I have ever received. They have changed the format due to changes the secretary of state made.

Changes?

mrz · 06/07/2014 07:41

The ones that haven't happened yet rollon?

chocadoobee · 06/07/2014 16:29

Not sure what the changes are rollonthesummer. There wasn't any explanation.

mrz · 06/07/2014 17:10

The changes don't happen until September chocadoobee

Shouldwego · 06/07/2014 17:14

No, ours are due next friday for primary. Need to check about ds1 and his secondary reports.

gingercat12 · 06/07/2014 18:13

Ours is due next Wednesday.

Hulababy · 06/07/2014 18:15

DD's is out on Thursday; she finishes school for the summer on the Friday.

VerucaInTheNutRoom · 06/07/2014 18:18

I'm in NI where schools finished for the summer at the end of June. I'm still waiting for DSs school report. His teacher has been sick but we were advised that the reports would be posted out last week. God only knows what we're supposed to do if there are any problems or issues to be dealt with.

wheresthebeach · 06/07/2014 20:53

School would never dream of telling us when to expect the reports. Changes every year...usually just before they break up. Rumour mill starts when office staff look hassled....

Galena · 06/07/2014 22:16

Ours will be out on 11th, school finishes on 21st.

PastSellByDate · 08/07/2014 21:15

still waiting here.

Not sure if delay is strike (still no word to parents yet whether we're going ahead as normal or school is closed) - or bad news.

prefer to think it's related to the strike - maybe staff not working on reports/ working to rule.

Interesting parent/ teacher meetings are still scheduled for the 10th.

Hey ho.

BarbaraPalmer · 08/07/2014 21:18

still waiting
IIRC last year they did them two days before the end of term, which is a bit shitty really.
