Why would you report final attainment to Y6 sometime w/c 14 July?

Hello there!

In following discussions on KS2 SATs (accepting some prefer NCT) and looking at the governments own schedule for KS2 SATs www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/278150/2014_KS2_assessmentandreportingarrangementsARA_DIGITAL_HO.pdf - which suggest results are available (thresholds published) 8 July 2014 -

I'm slightly perplexed why our school has issued a little addendum to their calendar for July saying that Y6 final attainments will be released sometime week commencing 14 July.

Why the delay? Does this imply there are problems?

They've been locked into lots of meetings and slow to open doors this week.

I'm now in a position where we get the end of year reports without KS2 SATs results, have end of year parent/ teacher meetings without KS2 SATs results and may only get these results on the last day of school for us (which is 18 July).

AIBU - or is this all a bit odd?

THe DC's school hovers around 65% (generally lower) every year. No indication that this means special measures. Surely this depends on the intake anyway (getting 65% is good for DC's school based on below average levels on entry)?

redsky:

above average attainment before entry and end YR against EYFS measures.

end KS1 - roughly 50% on NC L3

then it all goes to pieces.

Of course regular homework/ lending of books KS1 and irregular homework/ no books home in KS2 has very little to do with it I'm sure.

Very mixed socio-economically - but many people work for local hospital/ University or are students at Uni/ trainees at hospital.

Hi

Just to say we've raised this with the school and asked if parent/ teacher meetings might be deferred until reports and SATs results are available.

The school have said they'll take it into consideration.

No word on whether the strike action July 10th will affect the school - parent/ teacher meetings are set for that day coincidentally. If there are teachers/ management out there - if a parent/ teacher meeting doesn't go ahead due to strike action does it have to be rescheduled? We asked at the school but the secretary wasn't certain about what would be done.

While level 3-5 papers are back for reading and maths, the grammar/spelling test and all the level 6 tests will only be available online on Tuesday. The website is appalling and will crash throughout the day as every primary school tries to get its results. Schools will want to check the marking and adding of scores for all borderline papers - but what is borderline is not known until the thresholds are published on Tuesday. Checking the marking of online papers is laborious. Normal school life is going on while this happens. Perhaps teachers want to reflect test results in their report comments (eg, test result well deserved, or test result does not reflect true ability) and perhaps whoever proofreads reports doesn't want to have to handle each report more than once, so is taking them home over the weekend.

With the amount of transparency that exists with schools' performance, there is no way bad news can be buried for long.

Thanks for the info partystress.

Given what you've said, I suspect the reason they're being vague about returning results to pupils is because they've had difficult getting report data in the past off the on-line results system.

Everybody is looking grim & there have been lots of meetings resulting in late opening of school for Y6. I hope it's over something else - but the timing suggests that the KS2 SATs results are disappointingly low - unfortunately again.

A number of sources are reporting that there have been problems with the system of scanning test papers and that some have been returned unmarked.

Thanks mrz - hopefully it is more that something hasn't been properly scored or they're querying scores.

If this is the case - does it delay results for all pupils or just the pupils affected? Can this be resolved before the end of the school year? We break up on the 18th.

There is a history of Y6 results being delayed into the holidays in which case schools would send out reports without results.
