North London - Schools - Advice

Hi

I am looking for some feedback / advice for schools I have visited. My daughter is 1 and I am looking at schools for her when she is 3/4. We presently live and work in EC1 but are likely to move in the next year more towards Finsbury Park poss Stoke Newington. I will still be commuting to EC1.

We have looked at 2 schools so far - Cavendish all girls school in Camden, which I loved, and Dallington in EC1, which I went into with an open mind (having seen the mixed reviews here) but really liked. The school had such a happy atmosphere and see that the pupils have lots of activities - trips out etc. Channing and Charterhouse are also places I am going to see.

I would really appreciate some honest views on the schools I have mentioned. The children in both schools looked very happy and both had outdoor space, albeit a short walk away in the case of Dallington.

Any feedback / advice would be gratefully received !

Many thanks

Hi Tillypup. I started a thread which you may find helpful.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/primary/a1731259-North-London-N1-think-Ive-applied-to-too-many-schools

When I applied I concentrated more on mixed / boys schools as my oldest is a boy. Having said that I went to see the Cavendish (in case DS goes to a boys school and I want one for DD) and, while I liked it, I didn't love it. I am not quite sure why though. I think part of it was I would have had to travel quite a long way for it on the overground so I really wanted it to be spectacular.

Other schools you may like are the Lyceum and St Paul's Cathedral.

Wow thank you that's incredibly helpful ! Thank you. Cavendish would be a commute for us - Dallington is much closer. Will read your thread with interest !

Charterhouse Square is very different from Dallington (has a reputation as a hothouse although I loved it). The Lyceum is in between the two I would say.
