my dd has a slight lisp. the school has sent us home sheets to work through to try to correct it. we do try but honestly it's hard for me to teach her, i don't feel like i have the skills to properly work with her to correct it. We do the exercises but it doesn't seem to have made any difference, I'm really thinking I need professional help. Has anyone dealt with this? How would I go about arranging a speech therapist? I wonder how much it might cost? (We're on a low income) I just hate to think she might be bullied or have difficulties at school because of it. It hasn't seemed to affect her so far but it might as she gets older?

You need daily practise to sort out speech issues. A speech therapist can diagnose problems and suggest ways of solving them (probably something like the sheets you have from school) but nothing will change unless you put in the work at home. The school can do a referral for speech therapy, and you would have a chance to meet the therapist which may help you feel more confident. However, a lisp would be way down on their list of priorities so it could be a long wait. On another tack, are her teeth ok? A misaligned bite can lead to developing a lisping habit.
