What would a child need to be doing to be exceeding in numeracy - reception?

Just wondered.
I know what they need to do in literacy but not so sure in numeracy.

No idea what the formal stance is, but friend's DS at the age of 4 could grasp the idea of infinity, had worked out long division and multiplication, and was onto fractions. That seemed pretty good to me!

That sounds like it's even exceeding exceeding!!

see here and scroll down to appendix J. There you will find the Ticknell Exceeding descriptors, along with the current national curriculum criteria for level 1.

When DD went through this assessment the school only awarded exceeding if a DC was working at Level 2 of the current NC. DD's school wasn't the only one, however hopefully it's settled down for this year!

Stopped in my tracks by reading in the EYFS exceeding descriptors that my DS should be 'skipping in time to music.'

DS is y6 - neither he nor DH have achieved this yet.

What failures they are!

Ha ha at skipping in time to music.
