Blimey, what a difference in teachers from reception to year 1

Last year DD had a lovely young cuddly teacher who adored them all and was very soft and easy going, very chatty with all the mums.

Well today I met her new year 1 teacher and she is so different . She didn't smile once or even say hello to any of the children or the mums, just stood in the doorway with her arms folded. I think that class is in for a shock today.

Awww We made a good impression by turning up a few minutes late
The children were all seated at desks, unlike the carpet time that they were used to in reception. Quiet as mice they were.

How was your dd after school?

Um I can relate to this. Reception teacher was my sister (!!) although DD1 was treated exactly like the rest. Now in Y1 teacher is saying to my sister she can tell DD1 had "family links" in reception. On at least 2 occassions today she's made DD1 stand at the end of the line - for what I'm not sure. Don't want to pry with DD1 too much in case I rock the boat - but feeling uneasy about the Y1 experience. I don't want DD1 victimised because of who is she is - if she's wrong I want her told - but I certainly don't want her feeling bullied by the teacher!
Rant over!

That must have been strange, being taught by her auntie Mae1, nice though.

Charliecat - my DD seemed very happy when she came home from school, said she'd had a lovely day and liked her teacher. The teacher was no different this morning, very antisocial, not even meeting anyone's eye if she could help it. She told DD off when she arrived for not leaving her lunch box on the trolley in the corridor. Fair enough but her manner isn't very good for a bunch of 5 year olds IMO. I shall try not to let DD know my feelings, as long as she likes her, that's the main thing.

Were you on time today .

Half an hour early this morning Some people are good with kids but not so good with adults maybe?
Or....she may have wanted to get on with the children and is being rather grumpy with adults to discourage them

we had it the other way round. dd1 had two complete b***s in reception & a lovely teacher in year one.
