do you know what your child's sats results are, and do you understand them? my eldest child(just gone into year 5) achieved 2b for his reading. my sis who is a teacher of this age group tells me he is falling behind what is considered 'average' and that i should try to read with him every night in order to catch up. im not sure if it would be the right thing to do, im not the pushy type of parent and i just want him to enjoy school. ofcourse we will help him all we can but he's not the remotest bit interested in reading or homework, he'd rather play out after school.so it will inevitably become a battleground each night. what are everyone elses experiences of this type of thing?

As rough guide, the 'average' child is expected to reach Level 4 by the end of Y6. Each level is subdivided into a, b, c with 2a being higher than 2c. Try not to worry too much about these levels. Remember that they are a snapshot of how your son performed on a particular day. The best thing to do is to speak to your child's class teacher: He or she will be able to offer you the best guidance on how to help your son. Good luck!

My dd was a 2b at the same age and has just got a 5b at the end of year 6 it is just a snapshot don't worry, if there was a problem I'm sure the school would tell you, he may have done "worse" on the day than his work is normally! have a quick chat to teacher to reassure yourself.
