Hello all,

I have a 3 year old and 8 month old. We currently live in west London but due to space we are selling our flat and wanting to buy a house. We had always planned on staying in this area but prices are rocketing so we have decided to move alittle further out and buy there. We really like the areas of datchet and iver but am lost interms of schools!! All the reading on the internet is just confusing me more ????

It seems like datchet has many private schools in the area more than state schools?? I am worried about moving to such an area due to a possible divide of schooling. Also not sure how this impacts on the children that do not go the independent schools and the impact on the divide on them??
Also interested about secondary schools, although maybe I am over thinking this as I have abt 8years before my eldest will be going to secondary schools???

I need help ?????????? xx

There are a lot of private schools in Datchet / Windsor. And it's under the Heathrow flight path so is very noisy.

The thing to remember about Iver is that it's an 11+ area.

I think the kids who pass normally go to Burnham grammar, and the kids who don't go to Chalfont Commnuity College.

BUT because the Chalfonts is such a nice part of the world, the Chalfont school gets better results than many, many London comprehensives.

Although, the exam, and the thought of it, will still probably stress you out.

Thankyou EdgeOfNowhere.....

The exams are gonna stress me out.... I'm so stressed already! Lol!

I'm swaying more to iver purely due to number of private schools in datchet/Windsor. My ds will be attending a state school as will his brother in a few years and I'm reluctant to move to an area where most the children are private schooled just because of a potential divide. I've read alittle about chalfont community college and quite like what I've read so far.... You are right it's quite nice. But thankyou for making me aware of iver being an 11+ area. I thought it might be!
Do you know any of the better primary/infants schools in iver and whether iver heath is better than iver village??

Thankyou again xx

I think there's only one infant and one junior school.

I don't think there much diff between iver village and iver Heath. Both have a handful of shops and not much else. Iver village has more shops I think.

I think iver's a good call, and the 11+ isn't toooo bad. And, like I said, I think chalfont community college is excellent anyway.

Iver Heath and Iver Village schools are different. But cos of the similarity in names I get them confused. Check them out carefully because I am 99% certain one of them was in special measures fairly recently. And one of them regularly advertises for new staff. A former colleague went to work at one of them and was shocked tag this year 6 class thought the main problem with shoplifting was getting caught, and then had a discussion about how to get away with it. As I say, I'm very hazy about which one it is so you will need to do your own research. I understand there's quite a large traveller community over there so you'll get plenty of diversity.

Datchet St Mary's has an excellent reputation and last I heard was very sought after. However Churchmead secondary has much more mixed reputation. Datchet also has a significant traveller community. I'm not in any way suggesting there's anything wrong with that, just saying it's not all as affluent and leafy as you might at first think.

If you are considering CCC for secondary, have you thought about Chalfont St Peter itself? The most affordable of the Chalfonts but it doesn't have a station (that's a mile or so away in Gerrards cross).
