Dd will be five in nov, can I delay her start till January even though I did not notify the school/LA of this at the time of application like it states you are meant to in the admissions booklet?

From September school action and school action plus cease to exist but schools still have a duty of care.

Well that is reassuring that the LA keep mentioning it and it won't even exist! I will have to see how many hours the school will offer and see what I can do myself I think.

From what I have heard although in theory they will cease to exisit, as will statements, not all LEAs are set up ready for the education, health and care plans yet so it wouldn't suprise me if there ends up being a transition period (they shouldn't of course but it wouldn't shock me if it happened!)

Although for Hedgehog the EHC could be benefical as the Health needs will be identified and the use of any funds will be up to her.

Without funds though the school are unfortunatly in an impossible position if she feels that a 1-1 is needed as they simply can't provide that without funds to allow it.

From what I've been told sirzy there aren't any funds schools have to provide from their already over stretched budgets. I've been told that from July we will no longer have any EP input except for existing statemented children.
I'm at training with the DfE for the new CoP later this month so hopefully will know how it's going to work.

My understanding is that parents will be given the access to the funds and it is up to them to decide how they are spent as long as they can show its in the best interest of the child (disaster waiting to happen IMO)

Schools will still be able to access EP though as far as my understanding goes - the EPs I have spoken to certainly believe this to be the case

mrz · 14/06/2014 19:13

I've been told by our EPs that they will no longer be available except for statemented pupils.

Sirzy · 14/06/2014 19:15

So what are they going to do then? I cant see that as people will still be needed to carry out the assesments and do the diagnosis and much of that is arranged via the school

mrz · 14/06/2014 19:18

That's one of the many questions I have

Edenviolet · 14/06/2014 20:08

Sorry for sounding stupid but what is an EHC? And EP?

Yes, My DD turned 4 in May and I delayed entry until April of the following year. The place was told, was to be safeguarded until the first day of term after Easter, if she did not turn up the next day the place would beoffered to the next child on the waiting list. In the end just before September I gave up the place and went private. Was not intending to go private but had my reservations anyway then attended new parents evening and decided that the school was not right. The head just did not convince me a second time round.
