Found out today at last my crappy council.

2nd round allocations done-nothing to offer.

school 3 -0.509 metres from house straight line we number 7 75intake not sure if thats hopeful?

school 2 free school -30places 201 applications we were random allocation 105 last time checked names out hat so guess is 70 on waitlist at most and we equal chance 1/70 chance if someone out or leaves.

1st choice elder sibling attends needs check distance as swear we closer used distance calculator with postcode but 1.169 and number 6 but just 20places.

find it hard to think nearer than us was hopeful we stood slim chance at school 3 .

so we back to waiting and home educating with people saying stupid things like

ring your mp

you need to make them

you need to put her any old shit school as she cant miss out on lovely gentle reception year

so most people think im fussy, crazy hippy hopefully sept be better news have defered to jan then need make a decision.

I know i need hold my nerve stay strong and positive my stubbornness and praying may work out.

anyone else i same situation or story of hope.

I know waitlists are like how longs a piece of string

I am shocked that your daughter hasn't got sibbling priority at school 1.

What a hellish situation for you.

DeWee · 09/06/2014 17:34

I would assume with only 20 places that maybe they've all gone to siblings that live closer.
If you think the distance was measured wrongly and you should have a place, then that would be a case for appeal.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 09/06/2014 18:40

Your postcode won't be very exact as you will share it with several properties and they will measure from the centre of it, which may not be very near your house. The system the LA use is much more accurate and measures from your address. Obviously if they are very different it might be a problem.

IIRC your first choice gives priority to children in catchment over siblings from out of catchment and you are out of catchment. Do you know what category the last child offered a place was in? It might be that distance didn't come into it anyway if numbers 1-5 are all children in catchment but with no sibling.

MangoDaiquiri · 09/06/2014 19:04

yes I hate them. we have gone from 16th down to 8th and back up to 11th since offer day for the school we wanted down our street that we live well within the catchment area for. I would like people to stop saying "you should get in at appeal though". um no, there is no error we just weren't as close as some other people.

3asAbird · 09/06/2014 19:36

mango feel your pain people say some blooming stupid things no 1 has won an ics appeal since 2001 in my county and everyone who wet through it sad stressful waste of time.

I never lied we live where we live.

we dident rent flat opposite school like another parent
lied abut address.

we under 2miles just over mile from siblings school.

3rd choice one really close to our house but with no sibling link sometimes half the intake can go siblings which means not many 1st time new places.

thats our position at moment we could go up we could go down.

its just the uncertainty and stress with lots saying just accept the shit school distance away.

thanks raffa will check lea not too forthcoming with details there were other siblings who dident get in that live closer.

really tired-thanks happens to lots others on mumsnet and real life im not 1 obscure case my lea has stupid admissions policy and to much demand for good schools+lots new houses and no schools.

It's a dreadful situation. Is the one you got offered really bad? Sorry I may have missed any earlier threads?
