babysitting in our area is about £6 per hour plus I pay a taxi to take them home and get some nice snacks in for the evening. I round up to the next hour so 7:15pm to 10:30 pm would be £24.

mine are both quite self sufficient though. if I had left my 2 yr old and expected them to out her to bed etc that could be quite a faff then I would expect to pay more.

ds(16) gets £5-6 p/hr depending how late/long and for older children who stay in bed.

My next door neighbour is 16, 17 soon, and I pay her £5 per hour. She was over the moon with it as she's only earning £2.68 ph in her apprenticeship.

Mine would be well chuffed with £5 an hour - they can only earn £3.82 before they get to 18, working in a shop / cafe / paper-round / etc. and babysitting also has the bonus of not having to get up early in the morning

springchickennolonger · 01/06/2014 17:39

I'd pay whatever minimum wage is per hour.

mummy1973 · 01/06/2014 20:10

£5 an hr seems the going rate round here. £10 for qualified nursery assistant.

5 pounds per hour per child? Or 5 pounds for both kids?

I have an adult woman who is a childminder that I use to babysit mine. She charges £5 per hour. I think it is a bargain.

DangoDays · 01/06/2014 20:20

£6 an hour for our 15 year old bbsitter. We have 2 children.

BackforGood · 01/06/2014 20:41

Per hour - good grief, they'd think all their Christmases had come at once if you started going above £5 an hour! Grin

DippyEggNSolders · 01/06/2014 20:57

I think it's only fair, you're trusting them with your children, so £4-£5 ph is fair.

pencil that's just per hour! regardless of how many children.

I pay £5 an hour for my 16 year old baysitter, plus a selection of snacky stuff on the side and leave my laptop out for her. if she's babysitting during the day I also leave her a few quid for her to get the kids and her something if the ice cream van comes round or for drinks if she decides to take them to the park.
