Second round admission

Does anybody know the process regarding this? We were offered a school that we would not consider sending our DD to. It is technically the nearest however we are in the middle of three schools and they are all about the same distance from us. We put the other two schools down and did not get into either. We were advised (on here) to accept the place offered in case she is left with no place, however to see where she was on the waiting list for the other schools. She was number 31 on the first choice school and number 5 on the second choice.

When we called the council they said that they will send out second round letters at the end of May, but I've just been thinking and I'm not sure whether we will get a letter notifying us if she did not get offered a place or if we'll only get a letter if she did get offered a place? Does anyone know?

I've just thought, how will they know that we're hoping for a place at these schools when we've accepted their offer already?

If she doesn't get an offer, we're going to apply to another school which we know has places and is better than the one already offered but can we stay on the waiting list for the other schools and hope that a place comes up quickly?

This is such a stressful thing! Thank you

You can go on as many waiting lists as they will allow. They will only contact you if you get a place. You can ask them your position on the waiting list as much as you like.

They will know you are interested because you are on the waiting lists for the schools involved. It will have nothing to do with whether you have already accepted a place.

The LA will work out how many places they have to give based on how many parents have rejected places so far from each school. Those places will then be offered to the children at the top of the waiting list for each school.

Check you are on the waiting lists though - some areas automatically put you on the waiting list for schools that were a higher preference than the one you have allocated, but in others you may need to be more proactive and request to be put on the list.

i take it op must have checked she's on waiting lists for the other schools as she knows what number on list she is
