Had parents eve this week dd working at 4b English and reading and 4c maths. She has one term left of yr 5. What would u consider her chances to be of passing the 11+?

Children I teach that have passed have ended year 6 on strong 5's or even 6's. Therefore they were at least 4b at the end of year 5.

But ... SATs levels don't always correspond with suitability for grammar school. Why not try a couple of practice papers and see. GL assessment are the new providers of the kent test.

I know children in Kent who have passed with having had 4c at the end of year 5, but I also know a child who ended year 6 with 6's and failed the 11+ so tbh SATs aren't the best guide. it also depends which grammars you are aiming for/how popular they are as only the top however many students will get a place

What does her teacher think her chances are? I agree with mrsmiles, try some practice papers and see how she gets on.

GL Assessment have always done the Kent Test.

My dd has been 5c/b for a while in Y 5. Am far from convinced that her verbal reasoning skills are up to scratch. She needs a stick of dynamite IMO!

Madas, very much depends where you are in Kent. I'm Ashford area o 25%, much lower % pass in TW and Tonbridge.

Apologies goingmadinthecountry I meant they are the providers of the new kent test, it's changing format for this September.

mrsmilesmatheson · 24/05/2014 09:02

But I'm sure you already know that Grin

My friend's DD passed the kent 11+ by quite a wide margin. She was 5C or thereabouts, as she moved into yr6, in all subjects. She had previously been 'very average' in maths and had some intensive tuition over the previous Easter and weekly tuition up to the exams. She was in a private school but, from what they said, she never really shone academically at that school. Maths grades in particular, respond well to a bit of tuition.

Thank you all. She doesn't have a tutor but we are doing things at home. Her maths has increased from a 3c to a 4c since September as it I suddenly beginning to click and her teacher thinks she will finish the year on a 4b. We are not Ton/tun wells so not massively selective. I feel she has a chance. Certainly nothing to lose and other good schools if a pass is not achieved.
