Current Year 5 and new curriculum

Probably stupid question, but I can't find any info on what happens to the current Year 5 when the new curriculum comes in?

Are they going to be expected to learn and be tested on (SATs) the new curriculum in a single year? OR will they stay on the old curriculum? Or some combination of these?

Current year 5 continue to study the current curriculum as do Y1

DS is in yr4 and will be doing the new curriculum, yr5s aren't.

SATs don't change til 2016, so current Y5s will be the last year to sit the old ones. They (and Y1) therefore don't have to move over to the new curriculum til Sept 15. However, many schools plan to introduce elements of the new curric to those children, to avoid them having to play catch-up the following year.

So presumably current year 5 will be using the current NC levels next year as well?

I guess so, Miranda. Levels aren't being replaced by any other national scheme, and schools can continue to use them if they like, but most will probably gradually move away from them because they don't match the new curric. But for Y1 & 5 they will continue to match for another year, so teachers of those years might keep using them for longer .
