Successful Junior Place Appeals

Hi ya,

I have done a search and have read alot about appealing, but so much info is on Infant Class Appeals.

Has anyone had any success with a Junior Appeal? Or indeed know anyone that has? Has anyone specifically included in their argument anything about increasing the class size?

Thank you x

One of the girls in the current year 4 in the primary my youngest is in came in via appeal in year 3. She and her parents had recently moved to the area. I know from mum their main argument was due to some drastically changing home situations a smaller school with a caring ethos would be the best option for her. They mentioned the school had gone over 30 in past years with smaller rooms (as school had porta cabins and they have recently been made into permanent buildings) but she did not feel it was a massive part of the appeal . They obviously won as their dd is there now and thriving in school.

I should add I am deliberately vague on issues so to not identify and mother spoke to me about it when i was doing appeal for my ds secondary school saying she was happy for me to tell others if it would help. (So not said anything I was not allowed to :) )

Thank you. You have given me hope! The School we are appealing to is quite unique so there should be lots of specific angles.

Can I also ask do you just talk positively about the School you want to go to or do you also talk negatively about the School you have been allocated? Thanks.

Don't talk negatively other than to say "school x has a choir and DC is musically gifted, but school Y doesn't "

You ar always appealing for the school you want. There's no point in talking a lot about the school you've been located (other than the brief statements when necessary to show that they do not offer facilities/expertise/activities that your DD needs or would be disadvantaged by no having (eg choir/orchestra for demonstrably musical child).
