Its one of my options rather than do 2 schools due cost , stress and time and not finding suitable school as got none of 3 preferences.

I know its a gamble and would accept place and defer start just in case.

But anyone done this?

how did it go?

did child eventually gain place and settled fine?

I haven't as hasn't needed to but would. Home schooling at 4/5 years is just like before they started school anyway. Easy maths etc for adults, history easy from museums/ castles. If it means you then get 5 years in the school you want it's worth it

I haven't but a little girl in my DD's year originally hadn't got a place at the school. Her mum had three other children (one being a baby and another a toddler at the time) and didn't drive so she didn't feel she could do two different schools. She HE her dd for a year before a place became available. Her dd did really well and once she joined the school was in the higher groups. Don't know anything about how snd found it though.

Thanks for replies sounds positive.

I can either be stubborn he and wait for place come up at eldest school which feel confient it will but then be accused of being reckless hippy as locally school is the norm.

As this seems happen every year on mumsnet especially london was hoping some people had gone down this route and had positive outcome.

I just not sure can put myself through money, stress and incovieniance to take younger daugter to rubbish school i havent chosen miles away from home or school 1.

I can put dd3 in preschool 3 days in sept as he be 3.5 then have joy of his application next year and no sibling link for school 1.

My lea said there may be 1 vacancy they not sure for school local to new house which 4of her nursery freinds are going to, all her preschool mates going school 1 or school 3 which we dident get.

But if she got in there can see her reluctant to move and be stuck doing 2primaries distance apart for next 3years but will give dd3 sibling link was ok school dident hate it but dident love it wither had few concerns and poor oftsed but better option than allocated schoo,

or i pick different lea academy miles form home but close to school 1 where she knows know one and defer until jan or even april and hope place at school 1 comes up by then.

Its making decision to

home ed then start her late
put her in a school and move here
accept a school and defer in blind hope that it may work out.

I now have possible option of 4schools 2 in my le and 2 in other lea none of them great.

thinking with money saved childminders/afterschool club could do lots trips, swimmig and have really lovely time.

Im edicated to degree level and its efys I think im capable and know people who do fab job home ed just seems daunting responsability and know will get lots dissaproval my health visitor seemed truly horrified.

Is allocated school really 'rubbish'? On what grounds do you say that?
However, miles away and 2 x school trips would put me off too whatever 'status' of school.

Thanks sapphire its not massivly rubbish its just ok and 20min walk from house and school 1 where eldest going is 30-40min walk opposte direction from house. time between 2schools least 30-40min walk.

If was just 1st born then accept it.

but doing 2schools distance apart is hard I know this as did preschool distance apart whole last year was shattered.

If she goes school has to either be close to new house or very close to dd1 school which means diffrenet lea as on the border.

I did visit allocated school in 2009 when looking for edlest nd put it as 3rd choice as lived closer to it then. It went into special measures and is now improving.

I walk past sink academy that was in special measures and very undersubscrbed as its now academy have no ofsted or sats as newly converted as techically new school. I visited this school and some things impressed me somethings worried me.

I looked at the school near house that may have 1 space and 4freinds going to I liked it but dident love it and was thourght might be under as bad ofsted and extending intake its 10mins from my house.

The only school havent looked at is large 90 intake academy 10mins form daughters school again have no ofsted or sats and is about hours walk maybe less from my house.

I moved eldest start year 2 where she knew know one and hes done fine but was hoping avoid all this with younger 2.

All her preschool mate will be going to school 1.

I intend appeal, keep open mind and veiw but keep thinking home ed could be whole lot easier.
