Has anyone defered reception place due lack of school?

Sadly dident get 1st choice, 2nd choice or 3rd only 3 here.

Got allocated an ok but not great school in different area to where we live and different direction to eldests school.

Eldest school was of course our 1st choice but due to just 20 spaces and lea local sibling policy we missed out.

I do intend appeal and waitlist the 3 i picked and another 2 close to my new house as we moved areas.

I could accept the school my lea have offered me and defer jan

Also neigbouring lea as we live close to border and 2closest schools to eldests school have vacancies.

Hopefully look at both next week.

I kow from mumsnet such early days things change again may then again sept.

The last 2years at current school siblings dident get in.

in 2012 1 person on waitlist got in just before xmas

and 2013/2014 2joined reception jan as they were on waitlist and had siblings at school but think tahst because 2people defered reserving the places but never started so rec sept 2013 only started with 18kids.

Dd2 goes preschool locally so all her freinds going there.

The other 2schools she knows no one.

shes 5 in sept and keen start school.

she already does one club cheerleading and shes down to start rainbws sept.

I know i get early years funding sept-jan but shes bored preschool/nursery now and already had freinds leave for school last year as she missed starting last year by 16days.

I do know they make freinds easily as dd1 in school she joined start of year 2.

However if theres so much movement in sept-jan maybe im better off waiting rather than starting her then moving her?

so sept-jan maybe do few extra clubs to be social, go swimming, few trips and basic stuff like letters, numbers, reading, phonic and crafts.

As thinking due to staggered starts they dont do much sept -october half term.

Then nov-jan is christmas term where again so many events .

1school infants does not start any phonics reading until after xmas anyway.

has anyone else defered and done this?

trying do right thing ad if worst case still no school then she has place in jan somewhere feels like such a gamble.

The sheer cost and logistics as worked out cost wise

husband could do am school run if they both did breckfast club cost-£20 per week.

I would then need childminder to pick up eldest as think dd2 would want me to pick her up. childminder seems cheaper than after school club think it would be around £25 per week as only need an hour

god thats scary 45quid week £180 per month before start paying dd3s preschool costs and their after school clubs.

sorry you're in this position, doesn't sound fun at all. no real advice, I didn't think you could defer if the child is already 5 (September -Dec) I'm more than happy to be told otherwise.

Other than that, I'd get on as many waiting lists as you can, even at schools you hadn't considered previously.

thanks intend to do that.

The thought of additional costs, 2lots uniform and logistics and 2upset kids as they want to be together.

I know its gamble.

but think lost people start and then dont move even if they intended to which may put me stonger position as i be ready to go at moments notice.

dont know if better start her somewhere where she does 1-2terms and settled then uproot her bad or just home ed as legally she does not need be educated until term after 5th birthday which would be jan.

It could be nothing comes up and have to start her jan

would it be huge loss if she missed first 2 terms?

reception teachers will she be behind in jan if start her then?

if was dd3 would happily defer his as dont think hes ready dd2 is and wants to go school but nt sure how she feel about starting somewhere huge where she knows no one.

dont want to start her for sake of it when could sit tight and secure school we truly happy with, even 3rd choice wuld have been over moon with as 5mins walk from new house and gives dd3 sibling link when we apply next year.

I know it happens all time locally so many got their 1st i seem be only one who dident get anything

but lots people all over uk got nothing.

lots people somehow manage 2schools.

Sorry to hear that you are in this situation, although the local siblings only policy can be put in place to prevent people from getting the eldest child in then all the others from their new house miles away - not that i think that applies to you!

However it sounds to me as if your best bet might be to move your eldest DD to a local school as that would immediately bump your younger Dd right up any waiting list.

Thanks replies.

already moved eldest once love her school so not prepared move here again shes year 4 next year so has 3years left in primary.

I thourght I had right to defer just defer does not seem to be common option as people seem horrified and say oh god your child be so behind if you do that and wont have any freinds and just be plain weird.

From memory dd1 dident do huge amount in reception in early months as was part time initailly and did same sort think as nursery learning through play.

Tiggytape can i check something with you.

my lea offered me a school.
neigbouring lea have vacancies at 2 doable schools.
they said if rearraneg my choices so put the 2 doable schools at top and place offered by lea lea as 3rd choice then if dont get the 2doable schools my lea still have to offer me place at place they offered.

south glos lea sating wait for letter have no info on how to appeal or waitlists.

bristol saying need form from south glos then redo application different 3send back south glos who need to pass it to bristol lea asap in order to secure vacancy at bristol school?

locals will consider me mad picking bristol school over south glos both are huge undersubcribed academys but the geography works better.

going to see south glso allocated school and 2bristol schools hopefully next week.

bristol really good at keeping parents informed ad so helpful.

think they publishing furthest distances today.

i need ask south glos furthest distances from choice 1 and choice 3 both south glos schools. see where we are on waitlist.

Work out what grounds im appealing school 1 on.

fact she has sibling but local sibling criteria been applied so cant win on that.

all her freinds from preschool will go that school.-i know makes no diffrenece but is factor.

Also how do i find out net capacity classrooms and fight appeal from that angle rather than ics as pan for school 1 is 20 -r is 20 other 4classes are all mixed and some classes higher up have vacancies as dd1s class has 28 mix year 2 and year 3 and class 2 is under not sure how uch and is year 1 and 2.

I intend to speak to other parents who dident get in last 2years and see what they say. my dd2 is not only one theres anther boy and her mum said she move eldest and eldest reckons few people in her class leaving private soon anyways.

There will be movement at school 1 but depends where we are on waitlist and when.
