I've just received my email about my primary school application in Sutton and it says that they are unable to offer my child a school place ANYWHERE!!
Has anyone else heard of this before?
Here's hoping it is a practical joke...

They haven't offered your DD1 a place in 2 years ?! shock

As soon as she was registered in private school, she would have lost priority (because she was receiving an education).

I would resist doing the same with your DC2, OP. Stick it out for as long as it takes.

Once DS is registered in a state school pop DD on the waiting list there.

Surely she shouldn't lose priority if she has gone private if we have kept her on the waiting lists? Otherwise what was i supposed to do - home school her?
I do wonder whether they have looked into where our DD is and seen that we opted out and therefore not given us priority for DS because they think we can afford to opt out with him too.

If you say you are home schooling, you also lose priority (again parents making their own arrangements to provide an education).

You should just keep saying that you expect them to provide an education. They rely on people not knowing this. If you get to Sept without a place, chase them at least twice a week for updates and hold your nerve.

I've been there. It is mad.

ACE are the charity who specialise in school admissions etc, if it get's that far.

Might be worth ringing them for a chat about both DC though? Flowers

You don't gain or lose priority on any list by being able to go private

No tiggy 'being able' to go private is not an issue, but once a child is in education the LA is discharged of their duty to provide them with a school place. It's a slightly different thing.

We went private but stayed on a waiting list. We were told it would get reviewed in December and we had to let them know if we wanted to stay on the list. We were taken off the list as we didn't contact them again and stayed private.
Are you sure your DD is still on the waiting lists?

No they are not. If you apply the LA must find a place regardless of whether the child is being home educated, educated privately or not being educated at all.
