Was it a disadvantage not knowing friends who had been to DC primary school?
Thinking of a large village just outside major town with lots of good choices for secondary schools.

We've moved, and getting a decent secondary was a big part of the decision to move, DS starts yr 7 in September. He won't know anyone. I'll be very interested to see the responses.

DS is in year 7 and he was the only one from his school to go to the 2ndary he went to (as was 5 other students) the school has dealt with it great and a little over half way through he is well settled and loving school.

I think if your moving to villages the 2ndaries are used to dealing with this scenario and deals appropriately with it.

5 other students from his primary (intake of 15) went as the only one to their 2ndary i meant...

from what I have heard they have all settled well.

Hi Jaffacake

We moved thinking it was a good safety bet - this area still has state grammar schools, although 11+ is optional. We suspected DD1 was borderline for getting in (missed a place by what looks like

DH just drifted in with a coffee and suggested if your child enjoys the out of doors - Duke of Edinburgh scheme is great fun, make great friends and and develops all sorts of indpendence/ resilience in a child. Most senior schools run this kind of scheme- so that's a possiblity as well.
