Can any Scottish mumnetters advise of good places to live (with good schools) within commuting distance of Livingston?

Hi, We're relocating to Scotland in the next month or so. My husband's new job is in Livingston but he is happy to commute up to 30 mins away. I don't know the area at all, so it's a tricky task to find the right place for us! I have an 8 year old and 3 year old so good primary and secondary schools are the main priority. Can anyone help? thanks

If you look on the educationscotland.gov.uk website you can see stats for primary and secondary schools. Things like no of free school meals give some clues about the school. For secondary schools the site has details of exam passes.

Top of the list for me would be Linlithgow. It has good schools and is very popular with families. The railway line gives access to edinburgh, glasgow, falkirk and stirling. It does come at a price and houses are more expensive than many other towns. Big enough to have a leisure centre with a swimming pool and lots of activities for children.

Balerno also has a good high school but I don't really know the town.

Kirkliston is becoming popular. Lots of new houses have been built

South queensferry is quite pretty too .
