Can someone tell me what it means when homework says to use "show don't tell" to describe things.

Bill was in a bad mood - tell.
Bill slammed the door and stormed upstairs with a grimace on his face - show.

She was very rich - tell.
Her rings shone in the sunlight as she extracted a £50 note from her Versace purse - show.

Crummy examples but hope this helps!

Is it literacy based? In my class we are having a big focus on show don't tell when it comes to writing about character emotions. For example my children will write that a character is sad/happy/angry etc without any actions to back up the feeling.
We have therefore been writing tell me 1 show me 3 sentences an example of one would be:
Spiderman was furious: his fists clenched, shoulders tense and eyes narrowing as he stared across the room.

It's a writing technique - the writer shows the audience what is happening (through feelings, actions, thoughts, senses) rather than just reporting
