SAT levels - expectations within each sublevel?

Is there a list (or link) that gives an indication of what teachers/assessors are looking for within each sublevel. DD seems stuck on the same level and I wondered if I could see what I could do extra with her to push her on a bit and give her a little helping hand.

TIA Smile Thanks

I was just wondering about the same thing - DS1 was a 5c, and is now a 5c++. I was wondering how many plus signs until he reaches a 5b? :)

Sublevels ate effectively made up to show progress within a level.

Eg secondary maths level 6 is to able to reflect a shape.
For me 6c is reflecting in a given line.
6b is reflecting in an axis.
6a is reflecting on a grid where the line is given as x=2 or y=3.

Hi Anne:

If you join Times Education Supplement (TES) for free - just sign up as a volunteer in a school and you can then access their resources:

There is a nice breakdown of targets by NC sub-levels for maths/ reading here: www.tes.co.uk/ResourceDetail.aspx?storyCode=6033626

and for writing: www.tes.co.uk/teaching-resource/sublevelled-writing-targets-for-children-6033393/

By the way TES why not just let parents join?

noblegiraffe · 28/03/2014 14:39

That TES breakdown of sublevels probably only applies to that school as sublevels don't officially exist. That school has clearly decided to make some up, but as a secondary maths teacher, their maths sublevels are completely meaningless to me.

spanieleyes · 28/03/2014 18:20

where does it say parents can't join TES? There are lots of contributors on the site who are not teachers but have an interest in education. I would have thought most parents fall into that category!

Agree with what noblegiraffe says about the sublevels. I have an LEA produced set of maths sublevels, which look different to that document from the TES. I suspect I could probably give the same child different sublevels using both documents.

Given that levels can be a bit of a best fit judgement, you aer probably not going to know what she can and can't do based on the level you have been given either. I think your best bet is to ask her teacher what she needs to do in order to move up. Or ask her if she knows what her targets are.
